RV trips can be a great way to meet others who share your passion for travel, adventure, and RVing. Here are some strategies to break the ice with others that you meet on the road.
Conversation Starters
Introduce yourself more organically than you might at a business meeting. Instead of “hello, my name is,” try offering to share a cold soda or hot cup of tea from your camper kitchen with a passerby. Walk your dog around the park and let people pet her. Read a book or wear a shirt that might spark a mutual interest in a topic. Practice your hobby, whether it’s woodcarving, knitting, or sketching in public where fellow practitioners can stop to swap tips. This will help your interactions to come about more naturally.
Join A Group
Plenty of groups exist that will help you meet others who live the camper life. Try looking online for RV groups in the area you’re camping in or even in your hometown where you can go to swap tips and attend events. You can try casual groups on Meetup or more organized ones like Escapees.
Check Social Media
Everyone has a phone these days and most of those phones access the internet. If not, you probably have a tablet or laptop you travel with for contacting friends, researching, sharing photos, writing, shopping online or simply browsing. Make use of this tool for fostering friendship by joining RV or travel-related Facebook groups and searching for hashtags of the places you’re in. You can send people messages about their public posts to see if they’re interested in hanging out with you since you’re in the same place!
