RV Cleaning Guide

Remembering to clean your RV is one thing. Remembering all the different steps is another! We created the following guide to cleaning your RV, making it easy to keep track of the various tasks.

The Bathroom

The bathroom can be a breeding ground for bacteria, which is why regular cleaning of this room is essential. We recommend cleaning once a week during a trip and then periodically while at home.

You’ll need a toilet bowl brush, but space can be tight in a RV’s bathroom. Look for a compact brush designed to take up minimal space. Another option is to use paper towels. Fill the toilet bowl with water and then add the cleaner. Put on gloves, then get to scrubbing. Once every part is cleaned, flush and fill the toilet. You may need to do this step a few times to get all the soap gone, which helps prevent any residue build up.

The other steps are pretty straightforward. Mop the floors, clean the mirror, disinfect counter surfaces, clean the shower stall, and finish by taking out the trash.

The Kitchen

Messes in the kitchen can quickly get out of control. During a trip, try to wipe down counters daily. When cooking a meal, try to clean as you go. This will help save time and reduce gunk build up, which can be quite difficult to remove once its sets.

If you notice buildup on your stove or inside the oven, use baking soda and water to make a paste. Apply it to the surface and let it sit overnight. Wipe it off and rinse the next day, which should get rid of the grime.

It’s also important to regularly clean out the fridge and pantry. Get rid of spoiled or expired food. Then wipe down shelves to remove any spilled liquids or crumbs, which can attract bothersome pests.

Bedrooms

Your RV’s bedroom should be a restful retreat. But built-up clutter, dust, and even smells can make this room less relaxing.

Start by putting clean sheets on the bed. You can even spritz a combination of essential oils and water to add a lovely scent onto the sheets. Lavender is a common choice for promoting relaxation.

If the mattress has become a hotbed of odors, you can sprinkle baking soda on the surface. Let it sit for a minute, then vacuum it up.

Wipe down any surfaces to get rid of accumulated dust. Then give the floor a good vacuum. Now is also a good time to remove any clutter. Try to keep only the essentials inside the bedroom. Otherwise, it’s all too easy for the room to get overrun by “just in case” items – that are rarely used anyways.
